Black Swan

The Black Swan (Kakīānau, Cygnus atratus) is very common in New Zealand, having been far more successful at colonisation than the Mute Swan.

It can be found on inland waterways, such as in the many lakes of the Rotorua Lakes district, but this specimen was on the Waimanu Lagoon, at the Waikanae River estuary.
