Mute Swan

There are no swans native to New Zealand, but of the two introduced species, the majestic Mute Swan (Wāna, Cygnus olor) is the rarest.

Yet, I have seen many in my lifetime, as they are often found in the greater public parks with lakes.

This one was photographed in the beautiful Rotokawau/Virginia Lake Reserve in Whanganui.
