A female Violet-backed Starling perched on a fake tree branch.

Violet-backed Starling

The male Violet-backed Starling (Cinnyricinclus leucogaster) has striking plumage that gives the species its common name. However, I have chosen this photo of a female.

While the “dull browns” may be considered as less exciting than the white and shimmering violet of the males, she cuts an elegant figure and the contrast in her plumage is, I believe, equally striking.
