The bird is on a rough sandy beach, strewn with stones. It has one foot in the air and a small crustacean in its beak.

Starling

The Starling (Tāringi, Sturnis vulgaris) is common throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. They can be found in any environment excepting alpine and native forest areas.

This one was foraging crustaceans on the beach at Eastbourne, Wellington.
