A headshot of a Red Lory.

Red Lory

The Red Lory (Eos bornea) is a native of eastern Indonesia. It is a real stunner, which probably explains why it is the second most kept lory in captivity.

This one is, of course, no exception. It was photographed in The Lory Loft in the now defunct Jurong Bird Park, Singapore.

This was my second-favourite aviary at Jurong, due to the walkways being suspended mid-height in the very tall enclosure. The many bright parrots would fly all around us; above and below.

This one sat on a branch perhaps only 1-2 metres away, allowing me to capture this fine head shot.
