Two Kororā (Little Blue Penguin) facing each other on decking.

Kororā

The Kororā (Blue Penguin, Eudyptula minor) is the best known penguin species in Aotearoa New Zealand, being seen all around the coast.

I’ve not seen too many in the wild. That I can recall, I saw one swimming just out from the wharf in Wellington during a morning commute, and another in the Bay of Islands while out on a boat trip.

These specimens are residents of the National Aquarium of New Zealand in Napier.
