The Karoro (Black-backed Gull, Larus dominicanus) is the larger of three gull species in Aotearoa New Zealand. It can be seen around all of the coastline and around many rivers and lakes — and landfills. If it weren’t so common, it might be considered majestic.
This specimen was cruising a dull sky near Eastbourne on a very blustery day.
