Kākā

One of New Zealand’s most successful parrots, the Kākā (Nestor meridionalis) has seen a large resurgence in the Wellington region thanks to the Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne wildlife ecosanctuary.

Initially common inside the fence, the population has boomed and spread well beyond, into the urban Wellington environment.

This specimen, however, was seen inside the sanctuary.
