Hyacinth Macaw

The Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) is the largest flying parrot in the world. It is outclassed only in weight, by Aotearoa New Zealand’s flightless endemic Kākāpō, which weighs over twice as much!

That beak can split open macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, and even coconuts. Just as well it is usually of a calm disposition!

This specimen was photographed in the Parrot Paradise exhibit in Jurong Bird Park, Singapore.
