This California Quail (Koera, Callipepla californica) was photographed inside Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne, but can be seen throughout most of Aotearoa New Zealand.

While they prefer undeveloped areas, I have seen them in my back garden and even, on one occasion, walking down the footpath in front of my house!
