The image shows a small bird perched on the side of a tree trunk. The bird has a vibrant mix of colors, with a green back, a white belly, and yellowish tones on its sides. Its wings are dark with some lighter streaks, and it has a sharp, pointed beak. The background is a soft, blurred green, suggesting a natural, leafy environment. The tree trunk is textured with patches of green moss.

The Titipounamu (Rifleman, Acanthisitta chloris) is generally considered to be New Zealand’s smallest bird (length 7-9cm, weight 6 grams). I photographed them from the Bealey Valley Track, Arthur’s Pass National Park.
