The image shows two ducks swimming closely together on a calm body of water. The ducks have brown and beige patterned feathers with a distinctive red eye and a bluish-gray bill. Their reflection is visible on the water's surface, adding to the serene atmosphere of the scene. The background is a soft blue, suggesting a clear sky or the reflection of the sky on the water.

Tētē Moroiti

The Tētē Moroiti (Grey Teal, Anas gracilis) is a fairly common sight in the Pāuatahanui Wildlife Reserve, where I captured these two. They are a beautifully proportioned bird and while they are brown, when seen in flight at a glance, it’s not hard to see where the common English name came from.
