Small bird perched on a thin branch, surrounded by green foliage. The bird has olive-green feathers on its back and head, a white ring around its eye, a pale brownish-orange belly, and a short, pointed beak. The lighting highlights the bird’s delicate features and the texture of its feathers. The background is softly blurred, drawing attention to the bird.

Tauhou

Anecdotally, I find Tauhou (Silvereye, Waxeye, Zosterops lateralis) to be less common around my home than they used to be, say, 10 years ago.

However, this bird was one of a flock I chanced upon in the Pauatahanui Wildlife Reserve, so maybe they’re just finding better places to hang out.
