The image shows a brown duck walking on a rough, textured surface. The duck has a mottled brown plumage with darker and lighter shades, and its wings have a pattern of feathers that are slightly lighter in color. The duck's beak is dark, and it has a small, round eye with a pale ring around it. The background is blurred, with a mix of earthy tones, suggesting a natural setting. The duck appears to be tagged, as there is a band around one of its legs.

Pāteke

When I visit Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne, I always look for the Pāteke (Brown Teal, Anas Chlorotis) in the wetland near the lower reservoir, or the stream leading to it. On this occasion, I didn’t need to look, as I came across a pair on the main path, Lake Road, near the lower Kākā feeders.

I stopped to give them time to move on without pressure, and also took the opportunity to crouch down and take some photos.
