A kookaburra perched on the tip of a tree branch against a clear blue sky. The bird has a large head, a long, sturdy beak, and mostly brown and cream feathers with some blue spots on its wings. Its tail feathers are barred, and its eye is dark and focused, giving it an alert appearance. The photo is detailed, showing the texture of the bird’s feathers and the bark on the branch.

Laughing Kookaburra

While this Laughing Kookaburra was resident in Mandai Bird Paradise, they are technically a recognised species in New Zealand and I have classified it here as a rare Australian introduction. There is a small population in Northland.
