The image shows two birds standing in shallow water. They appear to be wading birds with long legs and long, slightly curved bills. The bird on the left is facing to the right, with its bill slightly open, while the bird on the right is facing downwards, preening itself. The water is calm, reflecting the birds and the overcast sky above. The background is a blurred view of the water and tidal flats.

Kuaka

This is at the very limit of what my (expensive) lens could manage and still barely makes the grade for this site. But it was the first time I have ever seen Kuaka!

I was rather excited to see a handful feeding on the tidal flats of the Pāuatahanui Inlet. After this sighting I got a better photo (see below) which was posted before this one.
