A black and white seabird floating on gently rippling ocean water. The bird has a dark back and wings with white underparts and a white head. Its beak is long and slender, predominantly yellow with a black stripe down the middle and a black tip. The bird is viewed from the side, giving a clear profile of its body and head against a blurry blue ocean background.

This Buller’s Albatross (Buller’s Mollymawk, Toroa, Thalassarche Buller) came by on a Petrel Station trip guided by Scott Brooks, off the coast of Tutukaka beyond the Poor Knights Islands. There was a fair bit of swell.
