The image shows a bird perched on a branch. The bird has a striking appearance with a vibrant purple head and back, transitioning to a white underbelly. Its wings and tail are a mix of purple and dark colors. The background is a soft blur of green of a leafy environment. The bird is wearing a small band on its leg, indicating it might be part of a study or conservation effort. Violet-backed Starling

My previous post of a Violet-backed Starling (Cinnyricinclus leucogaster) showed the striking contrast of the female — which has no violet plumage at all. (See below.)

Here is a photo of the male which should explain the common name. It was taken in the same location, at feeding time in the magnificent Waterfall Aviary in the now-closed Jurong Bird Park, Singapore.
