The image shows a white bird in mid-flight. The bird has long, slender wings that are spread wide and a long, pointed tail. Its head is black-capped, and it has a black eye patch that contrasts with its otherwise white plumage. The bird is carrying a small fish in its beak, likely a recent catch. The bird's beak is thin and pointed, suitable for catching fish. The overall impression is one of grace and precision. The background is a blurred, mottled blue-green ocean.

Tara

The Tara (White-fronted Tern, Sterna striata) is commonly seen in large flocks and this one was no exception.

I was on the south side of the Waikanae River mouth, where there was a flock of several hundred Tara resting on the sand. Among them must have been young because the entire time we were there, there was a constant stream of birds flying well down the beach and returning with a fish.
