The image shows a vibrant Scarlet Macaw perched on a vine hanging against a textured sandy-brown wall. The macaw has a striking array of colors: its head and upper body are a vivid red, transitioning to bright yellow on its midsection, and finally to royal blue on its lower body and wings. Its long tail feathers are a mix of red and blue with a touch of yellow. The bird's beak is strong and curved, white at the base blending into black at the tip. The macaw is holding something green in its beak, possibly a food item. The bird's eye is surrounded by a white patch of skin, and it has a focused, alert expression.

Scarlet Macaw

The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is perhaps let down by its name, as you can see it has other bright colours to offer.

This specimen was one of many in the incredible Crimson Wetlands aviary at Mandai Bird Paradise, Singapore. These beautiful (and large!) parrots, along with several other species, may fly right past you at head height, which is quite an experience!
