The image shows a pigeon walking on a rough, gray asphalt surface. The pigeon has a typical appearance with a gray body, iridescent green and purple feathers around its neck, and two dark bands on its wings. Its eyes are orange, and its feet are pinkish-red. The pigeon is captured in a side profile, appearing to be pecking or looking at the ground.

Rock Pigeon

The Rock Pigeon (Kererū Aropari, Columba livia) was another species I had no decent photos of until very recently.

I see them all the time in Wellington City, so I knew where to go to find some. This one was one of several pecking at morsels in the middle of a busy road near Wellington Railway Station.
