The image shows a large black cockatoo perched on a sandy-coloured rock. The bird has dark plumage with a glossy sheen, and its feathers are layered in a way that gives it a textured appearance. There is a hint of red visible on the underside of its tail feathers. The cockatoo has a prominent crest on its head, which is slightly raised, and a large, curved beak. The background is a plain, light gray color, which makes the bird stand out prominently.

Red-tailed Black Cockatoo

Black-coloured birds are notoriously difficult to photograph well. This Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii) was no exception as it sat atop an artificial rock in the Australian Outback aviary at Mandai Bird Paradise, Singapore, against a bright sky.
