The image captures a majestic bird in mid-flight over a body of water. The bird appears to be a cormorant, characterized by its long neck, dark plumage, and hooked beak. Its wings are fully extended, showcasing the impressive span and the intricate pattern of feathers. The sunlight reflects off the water, creating a sparkling effect on the turquoise surface. The bird is caught in a moment of serene grace, seemingly gliding effortlessly above the water.

Kawaupaka

This Kawaupaka (Little Shag, Phalacrocorax melanoleucos) flew past me while I was plane spotting from the Lyall Bay sea wall adjacent to Wellington International Airport.

I’ve also captured a Tākapu and Pohowera in this vicinity.
