The image shows a close-up of a sparrow standing in grass. The sparrow has a mix of brown, black, and white feathers. Its head is mostly brown with a gray crown, and it has a distinctive black patch on its throat. The bird's back is brown with darker streaks, and its underparts are lighter, almost white. The grass around the sparrow is lush and green, indicating a healthy environment.

House Sparrow

Unbelievably, nearly two years after launching this site, I did not even have an acceptable photo of a House Sparrow (Tiu, Passer domesticus).

I went out with my camera specifically to capture this and any other very common birds I was missing. I found this one in the grass outside Wellington Railway Station.
